Just last week, President Aquino visited China primarily to further strengthen bilateral ties between the Philippines and China, especially in the aspect of trade and commerce. These two countries have established diplomatic relations since 1975 and over that 36 years, China-Philippines relations in general have attained a smooth development, and also remarkable achievements in all areas of bilateral cooperation. One might say that nothing is new with this year’s visit of our president to China, however, there is.
I believe that being under a new and better administration is something to look up to with regards to our foreign relations, in achieving what we Filipinos have been dreaming of for so long –and that is, change, a betterment.
Hopefully, if ever our today’s president would have great news with him when he come back then there is something for us Filipinos to be delighted for. In that preceding sentence I want to give emphasis on the phrase “our today’s president”, because I believe that there would be a big difference now that we are not under Arroyo’s administration to be honest. However, going back to the main point, which is the friendship between Philippines and China, I believe that there is no better way to look on it than in a positive approach.
To speak of who gets better or who gains more, I believe that both our country and China respectively would just fall on the same level, or if not, a close gap between the two. As even many undesirable incidents took place recently, it is good to know that the friendship between two nations is still on its way enriching cooperation. Issues such as the execution of Filipino drug traffickers and Spratly Islands are just two of the most talked about that were somewhere somehow predicted to have affected the two nation’s friendship.
However, despite of any accomplishment to happen, we should not forget our role in achieving that betterment we are talking about. We, the citizens of this country still have vital actions to take. And before we seek cooperation with our neighboring countries let us first find our way to unite and collaborate.
We Filipinos would just hope that that President Aquino’s visit to China would have a successful outcome in achieving the goals they have listed. And that the programs and undertakings that is soon to happen between us and China would smoothly and effectively be accomplished. We just hope that despite of the problems our country is facing, certain acts of fairness, good administration and truth would reign above all.
True! We shouldn't depend on other countries. Let us stand on our own.
