We have this documentary project on my class, Philippine Political Conditions, and my group had decided to focus on street children. Last sunday, August 14, we had our first official shooting day. We started walking along UST to FEU to Recto and to Quiapo, however, we didn't have the luck to find street children. We actually thought, we can't make it that day. But we continued walking. When all of us got a little tired, thirsty and hungry, we've decided to take our lunch. We went to Mcdonald's, and surprisingly, there was a little boy, singing (rapping, actually) infront of it. With just one look, we knew, he is what we're looking for.
His name is Daniel, he's mother is at Moriones, his father is at Baseco, and his grandparents were at Valenzuela, and that's where he came from. Just so you know, i am from Valenzuela, and the place he was referring to is just few blocks away from my school before. For four years, i can say, that i've always been there, but i never saw him. He was thirteen years old, and his height is obviously not proportional to his age.
He has been there wandering around Sta. Cruz for a long time now. He said he will just go back to Valenzuela when he finally have money, which i find quite impossible. Yes he's having money yet he has never been able to save a few.
There are things i still wanted to share, however, i'll save it for now.
T'was a great experience. I've been to a new world, i can say. And somehow, they've touched my heart, our hearts. One heartbreaking thing i heard, was "mamimiss namin kayo, kayo lng kasi yung mabait samin e.." The feeling was superb when i heard those lines, coming from a child whose longing for care and good life. Those many "salamat po a, salamat ate ha" was another thing. It made me feel like i've done such a big good thing. Even for a short period of time, we were able to make someone happy. And somewhere, somehow, they've also made us reflect and value all the things we have. Material things, and most of all, family.
I can say that this would be one of the few things i would always cherish and reflect with.
Little things aren't really little. Sometimes, it's the biggest and best things to have, to feel and to give.
Desh,
whose life was touched
and whose mind setting was changed.

nice ang bait naman! :)
ReplyDeletemasarap talaga sa pakiramdam yung tumutulong ka sa ibang tao, lalo na sa mga nangangaylangan nito...
helping people without waiting any reward? = priceless :)
Yes. It's really better to give. And you've got the right word.. It's Priceless :)
ReplyDeleteit really feels the reward of "priceless" to help children like daniel.
ReplyDeletei also feel that too, instead of giving money to them, i'll give them some food for them to eat. (baka kasi may umagaw kapag pera binigay ko) after that i saw them eating with those lovely smile facing on me...yey!
nice bibihira na lang yung mga kagaya nyo mam. :)
Haha. I don't actually think that i'm so kind when i did those things, after all, the reason we did that was for a class project. Anyway, Yes, it's better to give food than money.
